Not to take away anything from the achievements of the CEOs of Microsoft, Google and Pepsi – Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai and Indra Nooyi respectively – but there are hidden global motives behind why suddenly three of the most powerful and iconic American corporations are headed by India-born Americans.
The bigger picture here is that America needs India. Really, really bad. For economic reasons and for geopolitical reasons, which will be explained in a bit.
To get what it wants, America needs to earn the trust of the Indian business elites, the media, the politicians and the average Indian voter. For that to happen, America needs strong lobbyists and spokespersons to break down the barriers for American banks, corporations, military and more.
Why America Needs India (5 Reasons)
1. Educated, hardworking, cheap labor: Goes without saying that this is a wet dream for American corporations. Millions of English-speaking young people who are smart and willing to work hard for a fraction of an American worker’s wage. The demographics of India right now is ideal – it has the world’s largest youth population.
2. Rising Middle Class ready to embrace consumerism: There are hundreds of millions of potential addicts of consumerism. They have to be brainwashed similar to what has been accomplished in China, and soon every Indian will want to own an iPhone, drive a car, buy Calvin Klein clothes, and become a debt slave of Visa and MasterCard. America has mastered the art of propaganda over the last century and they can easily do this in India, with one hand tied behind.

3. Sustain the western Ponzi Scheme of debt: Western countries are drowning in debt. The only way to sustain this house of cards is to bring in new debt – the essence of a Ponzi Scheme. The IMF and the World Bank will be offering tempting loans to India to lure it into the neoliberal economics. Soon there will be stock market bubbles, debt bubbles and housing bubbles in India which has not been a victim of outright boom-and-bust cycles that are seen in America. Of course, this will be done in the name of “free market reform” and “privatization.” It’s modern colonialism with a friendly face. 4. Huge customer base for Big Food and Big Pharma: Imagine if tens of millions of farmers use GMO from Monsanto; and a billion people ditch their healthy traditional food and switch to American processed food. That will be an ideal scenario for Pepsi (with an Indian CEO) and Kellogg’s and all the other western food corporations. It is also great for Big Pharma since they can sell trillions of pills to help the new cases of obesity, diabetes, cancer etc. Currently 60% of Americans are on prescription drugs, and that doesn’t even include over-the-counter drugs. Imagine if 60% of Indians find themselves in a similar situation. It will be raining money!
5. (Updated in 2017) Geopolitical ally to counter China and Russia: The recent China-India stand-off in Bhutan, and America’s sudden shift from Pakistan to India proved me right about this article written one year ago!
America is on a collision course with China, having already restarted the Cold War with Russia. For more than hundred years, geopolitical thinkers have talked about Eurasia being the future of the world. If China gets out of the current debt crisis intact and starts building the new Silk Road … if countries stop using the American dollar to buy and sell oil and other commodities … and if Russia has a good trading relationship with Europe and China … then America will soon be a “former great Empire.” So they have to stop this. They need a strong alliance with India, perhaps have military bases in India, and turn India against China. Just like America/U.K. used Pakistan to cause troubles for India for decades, they will try to use both India and Pakistan (and other Muslim countries on the path) to sabotage China’s plan for the new Silk Road, shown below.
This is why Facebook wants to provide “Free Internet.” It’s not because Mark Zuckerberg is a nice guy. America needs to control the Indian people – what they think, who they elect, and what policies they support. BTW, although Facebook’s Orwellian plan failed in the first attempt, don’t think they are just going to go away.
So that’s the truth. How many Indians can understand this will determine the future of India.
P.S. It doesn’t mean that India has to antagonize America. Here are some ideas:
- Just have strong boundaries, clear rules, and be friends with all sides – America, Russia and China. Don’t ever allow foreign military bases.
- Kick out GMO and Monsanto. Reduce processed food and much of Big Pharma
- Don’t fall for the lure of debt, consumerism and privatization
- Protect your media, Internet, corporations and other assets (including your culture)
P.P.S. Here is a chart of GDP of various countries over the last 2000 years. Look at India and China. They were the richest countries … until the European colonization started in the 18th century.

Just thought I’d bring this point to light too:
The music band’s name ‘Coldplay’ written in Hindi on the drums in the Pepsi Super Bowl 50 Halftime show, surely would have attracted every Indian’s attention watching the game! People from India, especially youngsters, love American football. No wonder Pepsi used it as a bait to win them over!

Hi, Most Of IT Seemed To Be Inspired From a book that i read … where in it was discussing the rise n slavery of economic empires n decrease n geographical empires. the economic empires will basically try to colonize or effect the slave economy ! i cant seem to recall the book … 🙂

Many years ago, when 3 Indian beauty queens – and indeed they were beauty queens – won beauty pageants with a year, there was this news also, that to gain a foothold in India, the cosmetic MNCs lobbied to make all 3 of them win 3 successive pageants with 1 year, and – to some extent – it carried lot of weight then; However, the same theory is being propagated to reject the rise of few of these Indian origin americans again, suggesting their rise to top is but a clearly thought out plan by US lobbyists to win the trust of Indians. However, it must not be forgotten that even before these 2 quick appointments, there have been a Vikram Pandit, Ajay Banga and Nooyi ascending to the top, and so jumping to suspicion doesn’t feel so natural.
I have a reason to doubt this conspiracy theory this time round!

Well i cant comment on larger American conspiracy theories but let me talk about Microsoft. Satya Nadella is literally the most capable, competent, visionary leader we (I work at Microsoft) could have hoped to have. He has brought about transformational change in the company’s culture and if you were to follow Microsoft since he became the CEO, you will know that he is completely changed the way we think of our products and the way we interact with our customers, erstwhile competitors and partners. The man has a vision and I am truly proud to be part of an organization that recognizes talent irrespective of race or origin and chose him to lead us through what is an incredibly tough phase in the life of this company. As Indians, we sometimes have this complex where if he wasnt made the CEO while he was amongst the top contenders, we would have said they are biased against Indians. Now that he is the CEO, we will say its because they have some secret vested interest. Lets give credit where its due.

I feel sorry for your cynicism. But then everyone is entitled to their view. Right now hoards of Indians are busy burning the country down asking for caste based reservation. The Jats, the Patels and god knows who else. That is really where most of India still is still stuck. It’s amazing how Indians who don’t live in India have this glorious vision of what this country is when you don’t have to deal with the realities that stare at you ever day living here.
Besides even our largest IT companies struggle with innovation. They all grew on the back of cost arbitrage and process outsourcing.

India is poor not because it was always poor. It had one of the largest GDP in the world for 1000 years. India became poor because some guy like you trusted the British.
USA has 1000 military bases around the world and exploits people and countries in more ways than you can imagine.
India can stay smart and work with the U.S. while not becoming a vassal state or a modern colony.
The Chinese have done something very smart — they created their own versions of Facebook, Twitter, eBay, Google, PayPal, Apple, General Motors etc.
India will be wise to do the same

With educated, hardworking, cheap labor force, India doesn’t have to join Google, MS, Facebook, etc. and make the masters even more rich.
India still has a chance. Don’t let America tap into the fish tank. This cheap money going around and VCs backing thousands of startups in India is one of the first signs.
Don’t let this newfound wealth blind you in the long run. There’s more cheese behind the one-sided mirror if you look through it.

I think the views presented are little too myopic. Yes India is an attractive market. But these allegations are too far fetched without any convincing evidence. Its more like a series of events have happened and now your connecting the dots by building your own conspiracy theory. I am not in anyway supporting USA, but the article was written with a purpose beforehand rather than approaching it the other way around. I think as young Indians we should have the capacity to filter the good from the bad and if we are incapable of doing that, there is no point blaming another country. If we want to eat good indian food, we should and stop saying it was propaganda that drove us to do this. No one is holding a gun to your head and saying you have to spend spuriously with your credit card. These are decisions which we consciously make. All said, I am also aware that companies do tend to take advantage of our ignorance and I feel that is wrong and we should stand against it. Take for example the banning of Maggi, I think it was a very good step towards warning all other food companies to be wary of what they put in their products. But no, everyone wanted Maggi back, despite the allegations and they even put out ads for the same. That in my view point is wrong by the company which would have been more severely dealt with, if it happened in USA. So recapitulating, develop yourself and your young mind to filter the good and leave the bad,

And last but not least, this filtering is what has made countries like Japan, China retain their innate culture as well as make 10 fold steps in technology at such a fast pace. But you must appreciate the fact that India has done quite well, considering we have a democratic process (yes there is corruption and other bad brownies) which has sustained the weariness of time with a population of 1.2 billion people. I think America has much better things to do and even if they have an intention, India should focus on the domestic market and its people for atleast the next 10 years (precisely uplifting the standard of living for rural India and access to basic amenities for sustenance)

A tiny Britain didn’t get to rule the entire world by not planning, by not conspiring, by not killing, by not being ruthless, by not exploiting cheap labor, by not stealing natural resources, or by not manipulating entire societies.
It’s how a nation becomes an Empire.
America is an Empire.
It may sound harsh, but America started out with genocide of Native Americans (the “Indians”). Tens of millions of them were killed.
Then the Africans were brought in as slaves to build America.
And the process continues, only in more sophisticated ways — whether it be propped up dictators around the world who sell natural resources for pennies on the dollar to US corporations … or, $1/day (slave) workers assembling hi-tech iPhones, making glamorous Gucci $5000 handbags or fashionable Nike shoes …
Weak countries like Libya and Syria get utterly destroyed when they don’t keep bowing. Strong countries like Russia face sanctions and economic bullying.
Sounds grim, but better to understand reality than live in a Disney version of life

Absolute truth as well, Indian politicians and bureaucrats have to be alert in the interest of the nation , because the common man india is powerless.
It is the people in power who have to work selflessly in the larger interests of the country and there own children and Grand children.in warding of the failing American economy leeching on India. Which has a fat 1.25 billion strong population who will be sucked of their blood without their own knowledge ,
It is always a comedy of errors , when the British first Landed in India they called us uncultured barbarians , one of the reasons Indians were brushing teeth with charcoal and salt powders.
The Irony of fate is 250 years later these Western multinational cultured fools are selling toothpaste with charcoal and Salt , and we Indians are buying it in crores.
Spending our own hardened forex to these blood sicker.
So Politicians and Bureaucrats pl don’t ditch us indians for enriching your Swiss bank accounts.
Then history will repeat itself we will have to fight for our country’s independence once again .
Wake up india . Wake up indian politicians , wake up indian bureaucrats.

This is a nasty one from US. Make Pichai rise unrealistically to the post of CEO at google, Lots of potential social engineering opportunities arising out of this.
1. Make indian immigration the focal point of anger of the uneducated white american.
2. In a country where south indians are slightly insecure of their place (Political leaders, army chief, businessmen, cricket teams are primarily north indian), make two south indian immigrants CEOs of google and ms. ( I have nothing against south indians, i’m only pointing it out)
3. This happens to be a bad time for microsoft when few of their services/products are getting acclaim, make an indian CEO. And Google is going strong, but ever since Pichai became CEO, they’re behaving uncharacteristically.(think release of doomed products like allo & duo,)
That is why US is at the top and will remain there for a long time.They’re smart and decades ahead of everyone else.
