For more than 2000 years, China has placed extraordinary emphasis on infrastructure. The Ancient Silk Road, vast canals and the Great Wall are all testament to this philosophy. Here is a slideshow of some really cool highways and bridges in China. Note that most of these were built over the last 15 years. Of course, China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI, formerly known as One Belt, One Road) is also reflective of this same principle. By the end of 2018, China had more than 140,000 Km of highways/expressways (about twice the length of the US Interstate Highways) and 29,000 Km (18,000 miles) of high-speed railway (bullet trains).
